Grilled Hamburgers

My husband recently found a love for cooking. One of the recipes that he has mastered is the perfect hamburger. For those of you that believe grilling hamburger is as basic as grilling up some beef, think again! Thank you, William Sonoma, for showing us how to really liven up one of America's favorites.

Here's what you'll need:

  • 1 lb. ground beef (or ground chuck)
  • 1 Tbsp. yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp. garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1-2 dashes worcestershire sauce
  • 3 hamburger buns, split
  • your favorite hamburger toppings

Preheat your grill for medium heat grilling. In a large bowl, mix together beef, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and worcestershire sauce. Form the mixture into 3-4 patties.

If you want to be cool like my husband, you can form the patties by first separating the mixture into 3-4 equal size spheres.

Then form these 3-4 equal portions into patties. The secret to good patties is to make them slightly larger than your hamburger buns. That way, when they shrink up on the grill, they will still cover your buns!

Grill the hamburger patties, turning once, at 7 minutes per side. Check the centers of the patties before removing them from the grill to ensure that they are fully cooked. (Fully cooked is equivalent to the juices running clear and the center no longer being pink! Or if you have a fancy meat thermometer, cook until 160 degrees!) Remove from grill.

Place hamburgers on sliced hamburger buns and add your favorite toppings. My favorite? That's easy: provolone cheese, lettuce, ketchup. Mmm! My husband's favorite? A ridiculous amount of mayo, mustard, pickles, lettuce, and provolone cheese. However you like it, I won't judge! Enjoy!
